In the wake of President Donald Trump’s dynamite address to the United Nations General Assembly, it’s important to remember just how useless — if not, harmful — the international body really is.
The UN was formed in the aftermath of the Second World War with the goal of preventing another devastating global conflict. To be sure, the goal was a noble one, and there are some success stories in this regard. But this very goal is jeopardized with the inclusion of authoritarian enemies of the American people — particularly the communist People’s Republic of China.
Despite the fact that democratic Taiwan, officially The Republic of China (as in, not communist) was a founding member of the UN, it is their communist enemy that holds one of the five permanent seats on the UN Security Council. Just one veto from any member state kills any motion or legislation that goes through the chamber. China has been more than happy to abuse this privilege.
With China granted so many privileges, it remains almost impossible for the international community to bring Beijing to heel. Incredibly, President Donald Trump called this out during his last address.
“As we pursue this bright future, we must hold accountable the nation which unleashed this plague onto the world: China,” Trump said. “In the earliest days of the virus, China locked down travel domestically while allowing flights to leave China and infect the world. China condemned my travel ban on their country, even as they cancelled domestic flights and locked citizens in their homes.”
Obviously, putting China in the hot seat is never a popular thing to do at the UN. But, Trump did it anyway — and he didn’t stop there.
“The Chinese government and the World Health Organization — which is virtually controlled by China — falsely declared that there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission. Later, they falsely said people without symptoms would not spread the disease,” Trump continued. “The United Nations must hold China accountable for their actions.”
The way things stand right now, the UN is just another international institution perverted by the Chinese Communist Party.
