Here’s a news flash that’s going to make a lot of leftist activists uncomfortable: Democrats don’t actually want to defund the police.
Okay, that’s not entirely true. Hardline progressives like New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar were ahead of the game when they wanted to abolish ICE and rip our country’s borders wide open. So, when Rep. Omar stands in front of a horde of gas-lit protesters and doubles down on dissolving police departments, we’re inclined to believe her.
But what about the old guard of the Democratic Party? They can wear as many African scarves as they want, it isn’t going to change the fact that they just can’t bring themselves to get onboard with this absurd cause. This is because — at a gut level — even establishment Democrats realize how incredibly stupid this is.
Biden has actually suggested increasing funding for law enforcement. Then again, that was probably before his handlers got him his talking points. We fully expect him to do a complete about-face within a week.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, is still mostly regarded as a hero for the modern progressive left. But this can also change. Unlike his leftist disciples in Congress, Sanders doesn’t even want to touch the issue. This suggests that he, like Biden, knows this is a losing battle with American voters.
