Actor Jon Voight is an anomaly in the Hollywood circuit: his head is grounded in the same reality as the rest of America. So, when he watched President Donald Trump’s 2020 State of the Union address, he saw the same things we saw.
He saw a president lay the cold hard facts about the economy: unemployment is down across the board.
He saw a Republican celebrate positive feats for communities that have long struggled: particularly African-Americans and Hispanic Americans.
He saw a family reunited, a legitimate foreign leader accepted, and a broadcasting icon honored.
He also saw bitter Democratic politicians thumb their nose at all of this by refusing to stand for even the most bi-partisan things. Seriously, why did Rep. Ilhan Omar refuse to stand when President Trump announced that black Americans are doing better than ever, economically? Isn’t this something that we all want?
As far as speeches go, there’s little doubt that Trump’s State of the Union for 2020 will go down as one of the president’s best. There’s evidence to back that up — upwards of 60 percent of Americans viewed the speech positively. However, you would never know this based on how Congressional Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media are framing it.
This is why Voight’s response to this is so perfect. The DC Shorts has the full clip below.
