Democratic candidate Joe Biden came out from hiding this week to announce his choice for Vice President: California Senator Kamala Harris. Now, seemingly everyone on the internet can’t stop laughing about it.
Chances are that you’ve heard plenty of criticisms of Senator Harris from the right by now: she’s embraced disturbingly far-left positions, and is one of the most cynical politicians in the history of the U.S. Senate. Multiple think tanks have found her to be one of the most liberal senators in the chamber, excepting Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
That said, the Democratic Party’s left-wing base has plenty of problems with her as well — and this does not bode well for a campaign that essentially admits that Biden will be a “transitional” figure.
For one, Harris made a name for herself as California’s attorney general, sporting herself as a “tough on crime” Democrat. Now, this is where things get complicated, because she wasn’t particularly harsh on organized crime and widespread homicide — things police should actually be tough on. Instead, she presided over disproportionate enforcement of low-level crimes, such as truancy and marijuana possession.
Ironically enough, Harris is responsible for putting a lot of black Americans in jail for what libertarians like to call “victimless crimes” — and she’s running alongside one of the authors of the 1994 crime bill — which did the same on a national scale.
If nothing else, this shows how desperate Democratic Party leadership truly is. They know they missed the mark when they essentially stood behind violent rioters and looters masquerading as “peaceful protests.” Democrats have just realized that everyday Americans don’t actually like when small businesses are vandalized, and police are violently attacked in broad daylight. Their solution? Make sure sure the senile old racist picks a cop as his running mate.
Of course, Biden had sort of written himself into a corner already — even before the killing of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter demonstrations. In the face of pressure from the left to embrace intersectional identity politics, Biden knew his running mate had to be a woman — a woman of color, to be precise.
And while Harris was a failed candidate who dropped from the Democratic race before the first primary was even held, she still had the name recognition. Plus, the mainstream media is perfectly happy to repeat the lie that she is some sort of “pragmatic moderate” — which she isn’t.
Let’s be clear about something — Democrats will be voting for Kamala Harris in November, not Joe Biden. The Obama-era VP may be at the top of the ticket, but we can all read between the lines. Perhaps this is why President Donald Trump is so elated by his opponent’s decision, and referred to her as his “number one draft pick.”
“She was very disrespectful to Joe Biden and it’s hard to pick somebody that’s that disrespectful,” he said.
We’re just going to close by pointing out that “kamala” means “terrible” in Finnish — a total coincidence, to be sure…
