How Progressive Liberals are Raising University Tuition Costs

Progressive activists continually blame Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and the Republican Party as a whole for the fact that many college and university students are taking out massive loans in order to obtain a degree. However, a surprising report from the National Association of Scholars has recently found a different culprit: mandatory social justice courses.

Estimates show that students are paying at least $10 billion a year for required courses, although the exact amount each person shells out is determined by a number of factors such as the university one studies at and the selected major. Costs are rapidly rising as far-left university faculty members find new ways to insert social justice requirements into as many courses as possible.

Social justice courses go by a variety of names. These include Diversity, Sustainability, Experiential Learning, and Global Studies. The variety of names ensures that just about every single college student has to take at least one of them. What’s more, progressives are rapidly adding as many social justice elective courses to curriculums as they possibly can.

While some students may be able to get out of taking these electives, others may have no choice if they are unable to get the credits they need by selecting alternatives. At the same time, certain fields are so flooded with social justice course material that it would be very difficult for a person to come through these courses unscathed. A person who hopes to work for an NGO, college, university, school, in social work, for a court, or with the Democratic Party would be expected to be proficient in social justice.

Social justice course requirements are often coupled with “vocational events” that students are required to participate in to receive needed credits.

The massive price tag for learning progressive tripe is bad enough on its own. However, to make matters worse, future professors and college/university faculty members are expected to not only study these courses, but profess agreement with the subject matter. What this means is that, in the future, 100% of university and college educators will be far-left progressives. Those who think the state of higher education in the U.S. is bad now have another thing coming…

There is one thing that can be done to decrease the prevalence of these meaningless courses. David Randall, who authored the report highlighting the problem, has accurately noted that the Department of Justice, Department of Education and/or Congress can declare social justice courses to be “experiential courses,” making them ineligible for federal student aid. Without funding, these courses would be far less prevalent than they are today.

Far-left liberals are doing everything in their power to indoctrinate young people. These courses provide little to no real value for the money spent, and cause young people to go deep into debt in order to receive a diploma. There is no reason taxpayers should be footing the bill for this.
