If the Trump campaign has a lock on anything, it’s getting the other side to screech to the point of not being able to breathe. Without a doubt, this is the motivation behind the campaign’s latest stunt, which is selling plastic straws on its website.
The move is an obvious jab at liberal governments in California, which have banned plastic straws in a bizarre bid to “save the planet.” This, of course, ignores the fact that the beverage products make up an insanely miniscule amount of the waste that ends up in the ocean. By the by, the United States also lags far behind countries like China in pollution in general, but that’s a topic for another time.
Californians who prefer using straws when out and about have since had to live with paper straws, which are famously ineffective. Ask anyone who has been to an “environmentally conscious” college or university, and they will tell you that the only thing the straws are good at is melting in front you. At some point, you’re effectively flavoring your soft drink with paper. But wait, doesn’t paper kill trees? Shouldn’t we be banning that too? We really shouldn’t be giving these people any new ideas…
Welp, the Trump campaign is happy to cash in on this absurdity.
“Liberal straws don’t work,” the product description on the website reads. “Stand with President Trump and buy your pack of recyclable straws today.”
The straws themselves are characteristically simple. They are colored red, and feature the word “Trump” written along the side. The Trump campaign website advertises that they are BPA free, reusable, recyclable, and 9″ long.
Supporters can purchase a pack of 10 straws for $15, which contributes to the campaign’s war chest. If this is something that interests you, you can buy the straws here.
There’s no other way to put it — this is brilliant marketing from the Trump campaign. Trump supporters, more than anything else, admire the President’s ability to poke fun at the other side — a character trait that separates him from every other single Republican White House contender in recent memory. And don’t worry, CNN and its acolytes are already busy trying to find ways to call this racist.
