California Gov. Gavin Newsom is Giving Stimulus Checks to Illegal Immigrants

While millions of Americans are still waiting for their checks from the federal government, California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is making extra sure that non-Americans are getting a chunk of change too.

As part of the bipartisan CARES Act passed by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump, most Americans were given $1,200 checks from the federal government to relieve the economic stress of the coronavirus pandemic. Married couples received twice that amount.

Due to government lockdowns used as a response to the spread of the Chinese-born illness, thousands of businesses around the country have been forced to either close their doors, or layoff their workers. These are the people who need federal assistance the most. Alternatively, the government could begin planning ways to re-open the economy, but Democrats at the state and national levels insist the markets remain shutdown.

The economy has to re-open eventually, and the how and when is certainly up for debate. What isn’t clear to most Americans is what illegal immigrants — people who have been staying in the country in violation of the law — have done to deserve the same stimulus they are getting.
