It seems there is an ideological civil war in the American left: in one corner, you have those who believe that conservative Americans should be treated like people, and in other, you have those who think everyone who votes GOP is a national security threat.
Liberal pundit Joy Behar, best-known as the high-pitched host of The View, seems to fall into that second category. Her intolerance for everything outside of her tightly-confined overton window has resulted in pretty tense moments during her program’s broadcast, including one incident where she stormed off the set following an argument with co-host Megan McCain, the solo conservative commentator on the show. Considering this, we’re surprised she didn’t throw a complete tantrum with one of her latest controversial guests.
Recently, Democratic presidential candidate and Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard appeared on the program — where she was immediately attacked for appearing on other shows Behar doesn’t like. Apparently, Behar has a real problem with the fact that Rep. Gabbard makes frequent appearances on Fox News shows, including Tucker Carlson and Hannity.
This is the same woman whom Hillary Clinton has accused of being a Russian asset because she, like President Donald Trump, isn’t fully onboard with the idea that the United States must maintain a permanent military presence in Syria.
Now, let’s be honest about Tulsi for a second: she is no conservative. She has a few foreign policy policies that cross over with the Trump-wing of the Republican Party. But, the common ground seems to end there. This isn’t why Republican voters are warm to Gabbard, even though they are planning to vote Trump in 2020. It’s the fact that the Hawaii lawmaker recognizes their voices as legitimate, rather than as an evil that must be purged from society.
Yes, this seems like common sense, but it’s a revolutionary stance for a modern Democrat to take. Behar really wasn’t prepared for this conversation.
