Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard almost didn’t show up to the third Democratic Party primary debate, many viewers are saying that she stole the show.
Gabbard is a long-shot candidate, perhaps best known for prompting California Senator Kamala Harris to lash out by calling out her hypocritical record on criminal justice as an attorney general. With a military background and a foreign policy platform that often crosses over with President Donald Trump’s, Gabbard has been surprisingly well-received by conservatives.
Now, let’s be clear about one thing before we move on — Gabbard is still running for president as a Democrat. By doing this, she is opposing Trump’s America First agenda, and effectively aligning herself with the likes of Senators Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and the others she shared a stage with. However, there is a clear difference in how Gabbard views Americans who disagree with her, and how the rest of her party does.
“The challenge before us is our country is very divided. Donald Trump must be defeated. But we must do more than defeat Donald Trump. We need to deliver a win for the American people,” Gabbard said during the last debate.
We’re going to be honest — if Gabbard were to pull out a miracle and nab the nomination, we would be worried for President Trump. The veteran lawmaker has real crossover appeal, and its hard to find Americans who passionately hate her. The same cannot be said for anyone else on the stage.
Really, we almost feel bad — the contrast between the Hawaii rep and the rest of her party is a sad reminder of just how far the Democrats have been willing to go just to get Donald Trump and his supporters. Gabbard shows us that being a Democrat didn’t always mean having a visceral hatred for all things American. Sadly, that is no longer the case.
