U.S. House Democrats appear trapped in an endless cycle of wasting time trying to seize power instead of doing the people’s work, and the fall agenda ranks among their most foolhardy.
Following the historic 2016 elections that put populist President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, Democrats launched a national-level “resist and obstruct” movement designed to subvert the America First agenda. Radical liberal extremists such as Antifa spilled blood in the streets, assaulted police officers, burned cars, destroyed property, all with the support and urging of House Democrats such as California Rep. Maxine Waters and others.
The left launched a Russian collusion witch hunt aimed at bringing down President Trump and they have sued the president an unprecedented number of times only to fail in all their endeavors. Despite the will of American voters and the record-setting U.S. economy, House Democrats have outlined a fall agenda that serves no purpose other than power-mongering. If this were a farce performed in a theater, it would be too unrealistic to draw an audience.
“It’s a really tough environment for lawmaking. First, the parties are surely more ideologically polarized from each other than they were decades ago. Second, there’s more sheer partisanship in town than before — tit-for-tat, your team is for it, so my team is against it. Third, close electoral competition narrows the window for deal-making — each election offers each party a chance to hold or gain control,” senior fellow at the Brookings Institution Sarah Binder said. “Parties may have an incentive periodically to show voters that they can govern. But as often they disagree about what the problems are, their base rewards them for inaction, and they are better off blaming the other side for gridlock than negotiating solutions.”
Rather than take on important issues, Democrats plan to continue their failed attempts at impeaching President Trump, despite no “high crime or misdemeanor.” As Sanders points out, their radical base rewards them for mudslinging with re-election, showing little concern that vital national interests go unattended.
“Give me the leverage I need to make sure that we’re ready and it is as strong as it can be,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly told Democrats planning their fall impeachment inquisition.
House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler continues to insist on denying the Russian meddling report that exonerates the president. As chairman in the important House committee, the New York congressman has focused almost exclusively on smearing the president.
“When you’re solely focused on going after the president, you can’t do what’s best for the country. And that’s been the problem with the Democrats,” House Rep. Jim Jordan reportedly said. “But that doesn’t stop them. They’re going to continue to push this ridiculous impeachment narrative. When they’re focused on this warrantless impeachment inquiry, you’re not getting done the things we need to be doing, like fixing the border situation — dealing with the intellectual property theft of China. Things we’re supposed to deal with on the Judiciary Committee.”
The latest absurdity is to bring in porn actress Stormy Daniels in a public spectacle and try to undermine the president. Everyday Americans can expect coverage by liberal outlets such as CNN and MSNBC to look more like the Jerry Springer Show than credible reporting. It’s abundantly clear that Democrats fear President Trump will easily win re-election.
Democrats also came back from their summer recess fully prepared to sidestep the Trump Administration’s desire to put greater emphasis on mental health and early detection of potential mass shootings. The president signaled support for well-crafted “red flag” laws designed to have authorities intervene when lawful gun owners show signs of diminished capacity. However, House Democrats are hitching potentially life-saving legislation to forced gun registries, limiting magazine capacities, implementing excessive wait periods for firearm purchases, and other items they know will not pass the Senate or earn the president’s signature.
While Democrats spin their wheels on nonsense, the renegotiated NAFTA deal — USMCA — sits idle in the House without a vote. None is expected under Speaker Pelosi’s rule. President Trump is the only leader to keep his promise to redo bad trade agreements that hurt American workers.
As the silly season ramps up, House Democrats plan another do-nothing dog and pony show that will get them soundbites in the fake news media. They will then, again, disgracefully point fingers at the GOP and play the blame game without accomplishing anything or being held accountable.
