Florida’s former U.S. representative for its 22nd district is a living, sobering reminder of what the Tea Party movement of 2010 could have been. Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Allen West exemplifies classic American values, and there is no doubt he brought that philosophy to his job as a legislator before being ousted in 2012.
Now, West makes the rounds as a political commentator, and also stands as a living reminder that the Democratic Party is not the end all be all of black politics in the United States. Sure, he’s been called all the names including “Uncle Tom”, “race traitor”, and whatnot. But in his own words, he’s been shot at by terrorists before — bad nicknames don’t exactly bother him too much.
The former Congressman has a new book out, titled Hold Texas, Hold the Nation, and it’s all about the uphill battle Republicans face in electoral politics going forward. It’s unclear if West wants to return to the fray or not, but it is clear that he is still a valued voice in the conservative movement.
In an interview with the Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro, West sat down and explained one of the biggest challenges conservatives face today. According to the retired Lt. Col., conservatives aren’t even articulating their message anymore, because the left has taught them to restrain themselves from doing so.
Watch West explain this in the video below.
