Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will soon become a household name for all the wrong reasons. On June26, Ocasio-Cortez pulled off an underdog win in the race for New York’s 14th Congressional District. Though Ocasio-Cortez’s victory is certainly notable, her political platform is offensive to hardworking Americans.
Let’s take a quick look at everything that is wrong with Ocasio-Cortez’s politics.
Ocasio-Cortez Wants to Abolish ICE
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, dubbed ICE for short, is in the headlines just about every day as immigrants from failed countries attempt to sneak into our country. If Ocasio-Cortez were to obtain power as a congresswoman or (God forbid) win the presidency, she would push for the elimination of ICE. Make no mistake: the abolishment of ICE would lead to an influx of immigrants, decreased wages for hardworking Americans, increased crime and social disharmony.
Ocasio-Cortez and others in favor of open borders are intellectually lazy. Leftists fail to consider the ramifications of letting radical Muslims, terrorists and unskilled immigrants into the United States.
The sad truth is most immigrants from underdeveloped countries lack marketable skills. Many end up being dependent on social welfare programs, while the rest of us toil away to generate the tax dollars necessary to support the unemployed. Furthermore, immigrants from Muslim nations rarely assimilate to American culture. As an example, Muslim immigrants who don the full burqa intentionally conceal their identity in public. The average American does not want to share a community with fundamentalist mask-wearing Muslims.
Eliminating Student Debt and Make College Free
If Ocasio-Cortez were to gain power, she would propose legislation that forgives all student loans and makes higher education available to all. Free college certainly appeals to youngsters drowning in debt yet it would be a complete financial disaster. If higher education were made available to everyone at no-cost, taxes on hardworking Americans would soar to levels unseen since the Eisenhower era. Furthermore, the elimination of existing student debt is egregiously unfair to those who paid off their student debt in full.
Ocasio-Cortez is a Socialist
Hardworking Americans and retirees who put in 40+ hour work weeks for 45+ years should be aware of the fact that Ocasio-Cortez detests capitalism. She even goes as far as embracing the label of democratic socialist. Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist views will undoubtedly be discussed at dinner tables across the United States in the coming months and years. Though some argue the automation of labor will eventually spur the need for quasi-socialist policies such as a universal basic income and medical care for the masses, we are decades away from such a pseudo-utopia.
A Federal Jobs Guarantee
Ocasio-Cortez has issued a call to arms for universal…everything. From universal healthcare to universal college and even universal employment, Ocasio-Cortez demands state involvement in just about every aspect of life. If her vision became reality, those unable to find work would be able to obtain employment through the federal government — regardless if there is an actual need for the job. Rational Americans understand the federal government has become a Hobbes-like leviathan. A jobs guarantee would bloat the federal budget, putting even more pressure on taxpaying Americans, and fill the market with unsustainable artificial demand.
A Disgruntled Millennial
Ocasio-Cortez is the typical millennial: an indebted college graduate with limited life experience and a myopic worldview. Her preference for socialism undoubtedly stems from her inability to find gainful employment. Ocasio-Cortez has worked as a bartender and community organizer. If you were to ask her how socialist societies of the past turned out, she probably would not be able to provide an honest or historically accurate response. The problem with socialists like Ocasio-Cortez is they refuse to consider the alternative to capitalism will make life worse for everyone.
